Can I just say, I love this region. Sometimes I leave for a couple hours and I come back to several dozens of new comments. I see so many random or provoking comment chains. There's this strange drama between food groups that I still don't really understand. It's great...now if only I participated more in it :p.

The debate:

After renowned food critic and criminal mastermind Hannibal Terwilliger published a book entitled Food Behind Bars: A Gourmet’s Journey through Aephony’s Prisons, a debate has sprung up over the quality of food served to prisoners.

1. “This is ridiculous!” fumes single mother of three Kathryn Sanders, whose ex-partner is currently behind bars. “Here’s me struggling just to give my kids the basics, and he’s sitting in a nice warm cell with nothing to do all day but eat like a king! I say we stop this extravagance and redirect the funding into something more appropriate, like welfare for single parents. Prisoners should only be fed what they need to survive.”

2. Oh come now, there’s no need to treat us like animals for the sake of a few misdemeanours,” says Mr. Terwilliger via a satellite link from an undisclosed minimum security prison. “We prisoners have rights too, you know. Oh what a cruel world we would live in, if a man can’t chow down on cordon bleu just because he’s behind bars. Now warden, can I have some fava beans and a nice chianti delivered to my cell? I’m starving.”

3. Of course you have to feed prisoners, but what kind of food?” muses oblivious naturalist Colleen Aran while watering your plastic office plants. “It’s all these preservatives and cheap imported foods that have made these people violent in the first place! Why not establish prison farms and have inmates eat what they grow? Sure, it would tie up lots of fertile land, and there’s always the risk of an escape, but the benefits to society are worth it.”

4. Well, look here, you’ve got all these mouths to feed, and you don’t want the expense?” queries Ian Gates, CEO of Aephonyian Fried Larvae, one of Aephony’s most popular fast food chains. “Looks like this here’s something the private sector can help you with, and by private sector I mean my company! Just grant us the exclusive right to provide catering in all of Aephony’s prisons, and we’ll keep all those prisoners stuffed for a fraction of the cost! The government saves, the prisoners eat, and I cut out the compet-, er, provide a vital service to the community. It’s a win-win!”

I am very confused by this whole chain of what I presume are insults? Are they in-jokes? Regional dialects? Am I just an idiot?

I haven't been this confused since listening to two Australians arguing with each other.

These are references to N-Day, a site event in which Lac Champlain hitched his wagon to a faction called The Potato Alliance and was utterly crushed by my faction Crabs of the Apocalypse. This is another reference to N-Day as well as one to Krunker, which is an in-browser free to play First Person Shooter game.

Here Lac Champlain attempts to "own" me for trying a character class in Krunker besides my usual ones.

Here I put him in his place by reminding him that I went 40 kills and 9 deaths against him and another player in a Free-For-All match. Typically in a competitive game if all players are equally skilled the number of kills and number of deaths should be relatively similar. My kills being over 4x higher than my deaths clearly demarks the overwhelming skill gap between myself and Lac Champlain in the game of Krunker.

Here knowing his Krunker line of attack has failed, Lac Champlain retreats and attempts to "own" me again by insinuating that he will cancel the soon to be opening embassy between my home region of Hell and his home region of The League, as if I'm not the one doing him a favor and throwing him an embassy with our Commended region.

I hope you understand now :)

It's been 8 hours in office and I already have betrayed the ideals of my beloved nation several times and turned my benign democratic utopia into a freedom crushing totalitarian dictatorship.

Heyo Refugia! It seems like we have a new SC proposal coming to vote. The proposal can be found here for your perusal.

I'm honestly a bit conflicted on this. On one hand, this is the author's best work yet (they've already passed two SC resolutions, namely Commend Altmoras and Commend Drop Your Pants) and this has gone through lots of improvement since it hit the forums for critique. The nominee is a relatively well-known defender and community builder who's accomplished enough for there to be a good argument to bestow a Commendation on them. Plus, there's a penguin on their flag and we all know penguins are the coolest two-feets out there XD

On the other hand, this has a couple of problems with it. YMMV, but I'm personally not a fan of how this is written. There's an attempt to establish a persistent narrative about the nominee in the "Recalling" clause, before it is abandoned for a more conventional approach. Not that anything's wrong with it, it's just that the attempt itself reads kinda weird to me. There are some awkward sentences around, words strung together with commas and semi-colons to make any coherent sense. Likely an aftereffect of converting it from the original listy resume it was. There's little detail in some clauses to justify its inclusion and there are a fair amount of spelling and grammatical mistakes to be found the text.

Combine all of the above with the author's drafting practices (dismissing legitimate criticism as "copage", obnoxious titles, being an absolute brick wall while it comes to anything not matching with his POV, little research before drafting et al.), there's a really good argument to vote against here.

What are y'alls thoughts about this?

Hey, what exactly are endorsements? I have seen many nations that seem to have them and it seems to be something that only really happens with people in the WA; I'm planning on joining the WA, so should I worry about them?

Okay. Something I noticed was that when people endorsed you they got endorsed back: what is the policy for that?

We don’t have a regional policy regarding that— WA members should endorse the delegate, though, as it promotes regional stability. And exchanging endorsements with other WA members is, as Sylh Alanor said, a great way to build up regional influence (which makes our region safer)— but it’s also just a nice thing to do; everyone likes being endorsed.

Yup, Araine's right. No specific policy there, just if someone endorses you it's easy to endorse them back. We also don't have any endorsement caps or anything so feel free to endorse everyone you can or want to!
