I feel like uniqueness and and connection defines Refugi culture. I also feel like Refugi are very respectful to one another. One way I will maintain the connection and uniqueness is by continuing my daily icebreaking questions. I will also establish a Refugi Festival focused on inclusivity that will include challenges that will expand our community. To serve the postÂ’s out of character duties I will invite as many people as I can and try to help answer any questions to the best of my ability in the Regional chat, to name a few.

That's why I like the prequels. Cheesy as they may be, they have memetic potential and a coherent plot, which cannot be said about the sequels.

I'm fairly active in both the RMB and Discord and so I feel like I've got a good sense of both main hangout places for the wider Refugi community in the 5 months I've been here.

In planning my manifesto, I've tried to think of things that I feel will benefit both spaces individually. For example, dropping into a game night in an active discord server could be overwhelming for someone joining for the first time, but signing up for the Refugi Olympics could bring the same sense of competition in a more familiar environment.

However, I do feel it is important to encourage the view of the RMB and Discord as two spaces for one community to have broad ways to express itself rather than two separate entities, and that people feel free to move between them if they want.

That is the main driver behind the idea of creating a Refugi Kindness Week. Because at the heart of it, Refugia is a place where people have been so kind and helpful to me in both spaces, and in my experience that is central to our region's culture no matter where we choose to interact with the community.

It's based on the "I want to speak to the manager" stereotype: middle aged woman with a shrill voice making unreasonable demands and being unaccommodating. And that's still how I usually see it presented even when it's directed at other people - god, can you believe he's acting like that bitch? It plays off a lot of classic sexist stereotypes and I really don't see any other clear reason for its prevalence over a more explicitly classist term like bougie.

It is a curious thing to make a resolution about protections against cybercrime and then leave a huge hole in it for anyone to walk through when cybercrime could conceivably aid in enforcing prior legislation. GAR#287, section 3? Get into their computers as long as you have suspicion they're trading radiological substances. GAR#177, section 3? Cyberwarfare seems like a pretty effective way to "eliminate financial fraud." I also suspect there's a loophole here such that a computer could be "otherwise compromised" under these circumstances and remain so after the fact without cause, continuing to collect and transmit data.

Beyond this, the weird floating clause at the end of 2(b) reads poorly. I also think 2(b)(iv) potentially leaves a lot of wiggle room to enact cyberattacks in the name of preventing terrorism, and I would have liked to have seen some kind of focus on scenarios where non-state entities (like, say, an insurgent force challenging a state) carry out cyberattacks, how member states could respond and whether membership in that force would permit it - as written, I don't know that it does.

My understanding is that this world assembly proposal does nothing against individuals carrying out cyber attacks and removes the option of retaliatory cyberattacks.

Because of that as well as an individuals attack potentially having the same potency as a governments and that dedicated adversaries will successfully perform a cyberattack against you, I have voted against this proposal.

Now, you may be thinking, “Emily, I’ve been here for 43 days and I’m on the map, why did you ping me in this?” That’s a great point! But there’s a small chance someone’s like “I’ve been here 49 days answering issues and I didn’t know there was more to be done in this game than that.” I’m doing this partially for them.

ThereÂ’s a lot of great information in the welcome telegram youÂ’ve already received, but I have a few things that might help settling into the region easier. Refugia is part of a larger community named Calamity Refuge, or CalRef. We have a discord here: https://calref.network/chat/ and a forum here: https://calref.cc/index.php. Links for both are in the region description box at the top of this page. We host game nights and movie nights from the discord server, and have been recently making our way through the Studio Ghibli catalogue. On the forum we have RPs and spam games (not really related to NS). If you want a place to just chill and talk to friendly people, those are great spaces for that.

If you haven't already done so, please consider joining the World Assembly! Click the link to learn more information on what that means and how to do it. If you join the World Assembly, you can endorse other nations in the region (endorsing the delegate increases our regional vote) and get endorsed in return. You'll also become a Refugia Member State, which means you can vote in our elections and get a spot on our map of Refugia!
