Soreenium City’s stadium “The Tin” played host to Group D’s opening league matches.

In the first match between Nangka and Sylh Alanor, we witnessed probably the biggest surprise of the tournament so far. One of the favourites going into the tournament the Immortals just never got going in this match against a thoroughly professional outfit. The Zapateros were rewarded with 4 goals for their efforts with only 1 in reply. Congratulations Nangkan!

Nangkan Zapateros 4 - Alanori Immortals 1

In the final opening game neither Lethodus or Lower French Gregballswould give an inch. Both back lines executed their plans perfectly and both keepers enjoyed a clean sheet and a share of the points.

Lethodus Ligers 0 - Lower French Gregballists 0

Group D;

Nangkan Zapateros – pts 3 – GD 3

Lethodus Ligers – pts 1 – GD 0

Lower French Gregballists – pts 1 – GD 0

Alanori Immortals – pts 0 – GD - 3

Not the start the Immortals hoped for but with 2 teams just one point ahead they can turn this round.

Tomorrow we return to Group A with Tovenian Guardians vs The Star Enpire Deep One's and The Micheldo vs The Toadsters. Who will start to run away with the group?

The Star Enpire, Lethodus, New Pi-Ramesses, Nangka, Melenavenia, Vikoland, Araine, Michelland, Junitaki-Cho, Kariforunia

Action from Group A today, and we start with Tovenia and the home crowd in full voice behind them twice coming back from a goal down against The Star Enpire Deep One's, but it just wasn’t enough. It was the Deep Ones who were cheering at full time after their third goal went in with just seconds to spare. Heart break for the home nation and a guaranteed spot in the knockout round for the Deep One’s!

Tovenian Guardians 2 - The Star Enpire Deep One's 3

The Toadsters were on a mission to prove their critics wrong against The Micheldo. Although they never looked like taking all three points, it was a much better performance as they shut their frustrated opponents down for the full 90 mins and ended up sharing the points.

The Micheldo 0 - The Toadsters 0

Group A;

The Star Enpire Deep One's – pts 6 – GD 5

The Micheldo – pts 2 – GD 0

Tovenian Guardians – pts 1 – GD -1

The Toadsters – pts 1 – GD -4

With results going their way, the The Star Enpire is through! There is 1 place left and Michelland are leading the charge.

Tomorrow in Group B we have the top 2 Melenevian Polar Aces vs Refuge Isle and Chatulan Steelheads vs Felidaes' Field Leopards both needing the points.

The Star Enpire, New Pi-Ramesses, Vikoland, Araine, Michelland, Junitaki-Cho, Kariforunia

Sorry for two posts in a row but its been over 24 hours so hopefully it's ok.

We are back with action from Group B today. The first match of the day pitted the 2 winners from match day 1 against each other with both the Polar Aces and Refuge Isle hoping to take full control of the group. Before kick off it was hard to predict a winner, but an early goal by Refuge Isle seemed to galvanise their belief. They maintained control despite Melenavia’s best efforts and picked up a second goal in the process.

Melenevia Polar Aces 0 – Refuge Isle 2

From 2 teams with momentum, we now to the other side of the table and 2 teams in the Chatulan Steelheads and Felidaes' Field Leopards aiming to get their tournament kick-started. Once again the Steelheads started strong and scored early. Field Leopards fans may have considered turning off then and there, but they were glad if they didn’t. They dug in deep and equalised before half time. In the second half it was all Field Leopards as they netted twice more for their 1st win. Perhaps now they can start to believe.

Chatulan Steelheads 1 – Felidaes’ Field Leopards 3

Group B;

Refuge Isle – pts 6 – GD 5

Melenevian Polar Aces – pts 3 – GD 0

Felidaes' Field Leopards – pts 3 - GD -1

Chatulan Steelheads – pts 0 – GD -4

With 1 game to go any 2 of 3 teams can go through (although Refuge Isle’s GD looks good) with the Steelheads playing for pride only.

Tomorrow will see Vikoland Crowns vs The Ceres Station Asteroids and The Blue Kishkaws of Endmight vs Vraisten Vulpines in Group C.

The Star Enpire, New Pi-Ramesses, Sylh Alanor, Vikoland, Araine, Michelland, Chatula, Kariforunia

I extend my deepest condolences to the people of Melenavenia

In Group C both the Vikoland Crowns and the Ceres Station Asteroids needed a win to get back in contention for the quarter finals and boy did this show. In this four goal thriller, both teams went for it but neither team could edge out the other in the 90 minutes.

Vikoland Crowns 2 - The Ceres Station Asteroids 2

Once again we are treated to the top 2 in the group matching up with The Blue Kishkaws of Endmigt and the Vraisten Vulpines knowing that after the draw earlier, a win would see either team through to the next round. Both teams were solid at the back and it looked like it was destined to end goalless until a stunning team move broke the Vulpines back line and bagged Endmigt the 3 points.

The Blue Kishkaws of Endmigt 1 - Vraisten Vulpines 0

Group C standings;

The Blue Kishkaws of Endmigt – pts 6 – GD 3

Vraisten Vulpines – pts 3 – GD 1

The Ceres Station Asteroids – pts 1 – GD -2

Vikoland Crowns – pts 1 – GD -2

Congratulations to Endmigt who are guaranteed a top 2 finish and are the 2nd team officially into the quarter finals! But all 3 of the other teams can still grab that 2nd spot. Game on!

Tomorrow in Group D we will see Nangkan Zapateros vs Lethodus Ligers and Alanori Immortals try to bounce back against the Lower French Gregballists. Who will win?

New Pi-Ramesses, Vikoland, Araine, Michelland, Kariforunia

Welcome to Refugia Oinopa Ponton, Nevad, Canis Maior, Kallinthea, Canin Salvador, and Sand Mood! We're a mostly community-focused region, happier to just vibe with one another than get involved in a lot of heavy, drama-related site issues. If you have any questions about how NationStates or regional stuff or anything else works, please feel comfortable asking questions. Everyone's very nice and we have a lot of highly proficient people around who have deep knowledge of various site activities.

If you haven't already, please consider joining the World Assembly and endorsing some of your regionmates. Every endorsement generates more Refugia-exclusive Influence, which is a magical site function that can only be made here. It also increases our voting power at the World Assembly (more information on that is in the WA link I provided). If you don't feel up to it or don't want to, that's also entirely fine.

We have an off-site forum (https://calref.cc/) and discord server (https://calref.network/chat/) connected to our larger community Calamity Refuge, of which NationStates is only one thing we do. If you want a friendly place to just be yourself and hang out, I can absolutely recommend checking out those community links at the top of the region page. In fact, right now we have a big site event going on on the forum, the Battle of All Things! If you register on the forum, you can vote to determine the outcome of different character battle scenarios. We also run weekly movie nights in our discord server.

I know that's a lot, and I'm sorry if things feel a bit overwhelming. Just know that we're all here and want to be friends, so take things as quickly or slowly as you like, and we'll all be here for the ride. Thanks for joining us. If I've missed anyone else who's joined in the time since the last welcome post I did, I'm extremely sorry about that. The activity feed is unfortunately limited and I've been asleep.

Also welcome Gibraltarica and Her Eminence ^-^ it's nice to have you here.

Also, I'd really like for us to have more discussion on WA things here. So let's try this one:

Repeal: “Preventing the Execution of Innocents”

This repeal aims to take away what it says is an old, redundant resolution. PtEoI was a resolution made during a time when a full death penalty ban was thought to be impossible. So, in the light of not being able to pass a full death penalty ban because of the bloodthirsty nature of the General Assembly, the author made it nearly impossible to execute people through a series of bureaucratic regulations. Later, of course, the non-military and military death penalty bans were passed, making this one less useful.

On top of not being a fan of the general attitude and rudeness of the resolution, which I understand is an in-character choice and I dislike people having angry and problematic IC personas, I just don't think this is very necessary? I mean, sure there are two interlocking death penalty ban resolutions in place now, but I don't think it's a certainty that they'll always be there. Removing a harmless backup resolution just because it's "redundant" isn't planning for the possible eventuality where the things it's redundant of are themselves repealed.

Furthermore, there's not a limit of how many resolutions are allowed to be in place at one time, so I'm tired of seeing non-stop repeals for no reason other than "well this is kinda outdated but we're not going to replace it". I've voted against.

But what do you all think? Let me know, I'm really interested.

Lower French Gregballs, New Pi-Ramesses, Vikoland, Araine, Michelland, Junitaki-Cho, Tovenia, Kariforunia, Oinopa Ponton

I think that repealing redundant resolutions is technically a good thing but I also think you're right when you say that it could be a backup, so I will probably vote against.

Lower French Gregballs, Vikoland, Araine, Tovenia, Kariforunia

I'm not seeing any argument showing that PtEoI interferes with following resolutions. I'd also agree the tone of the resolution's author is aggressive. I'm planning on following SA's vote against.

It seems the Against vote is getting crushed though.

Be that as it may, the resolution looks keen to be marked as illegal before the vote finishes, so it may be discarded.

I'm fine with supporting against for the reasons you all mentioned.

On another note...

It was a scrappy game to kick things off in Group D today as both the Nangkan Zapateros and the Lethodus Ligers hit hard and left nothing on the field. It wasn’t pretty but both defences put on a masterclass as this game ended goalless.

Nangkan Zapateros 0 - Lethodus Ligers 0

In our second match featuring the Alanori Immortals and the Lower French Gregballists, much of the pre-match media focus was on the Immortals bouncing back.... but this story was not to be. They were slow to get going for the second game in a row and this allowed the Lower French Gregballists to seize control, scoring 3 in the 1st half. The Immortals put in a much better performance in the 2nd half scoring a consolation goal but it was too little too late.

Now the drama begins. It’s the last Group matches of a very open Group A. Both Tovenia and The Toadsters knew that a win would give them an outside chance of qualification to the next round and it really showed in the early kick-off. Both teams through caution to the wind. Tovenia got off to a quick start netting twice but the Toadsters came back strong scoring one of their own before half time. The second half produced loads more chances and the same number of goals again with the Guardians proving to be just that bit more clinical in front of goal.

Tovenian Guardians 4 – The Toadsters 2

Tovenia’s win meant The Micheldo knew they needed a victory themselves against an unbeaten Star Enpire to clinch that 2nd place. As 1st place was already guaranteed, would the Deep One’s take their foot off the gas? The Micheldo dominated possession limiting the Deep One’s to no real chances of note. They also threw everything they had at the Star Enpire’s defence.... but they are top of the league for a reason and remained stoic throughout.

The Micheldo 0 - The Star Enpire Deep One's 0

Group A final standings;

The Star Enpire Deep One's – pts 7 – GD 5

Tovenian Guardians – pts 4 – GD 1

The Micheldo – pts 3 – GD 0

The Toadsters – pts 1 – GD -6

So it’s heart break for Michelland after such a valiant effort. Somehow they are leaving the competition without losing a game! We also say goodbye to The Toadstool Kingdom (sorry the dice weren't kinder). They picked up a point which is no mean feat for the competitions smallest nation. President of Allokyus here, i have great news today. Yesterday, our radio telescope detected a faint radio signal at the Proxima Centauri system. The signal didn't look like any natural emission detected so far, and it was clearly made by an artificial source. This is a great achievement for both Allokyus and Refugia. Our scientists have already deciphered the first words, and it sounds like a greeting. Here's a partial translation of the signal:

And at least you can say you didn't lose a game. It was an impressive unbeaten record!

Time to break some more hearts unfortunately...

In the early kick off in Group B we saw 2 teams on 3 points, both knowing a win would take them into the quarter finals! Both the Melenavenian and Felidaes’ fans dared to dream as the game began and both bagged and early goal to add to the drama. However, just as they did in their opening games, The Field Leopards began to fade and The Polar Aces pressed on, once again scoring 2 late on.

Melenavenian Polar Aces 3 - Felidaes' Field Leopards 1

The unbeaten Refuge Isles were now definitely through, but in what position would they finish? The Steelheads had their own mission – to avoid being the first team to finish on 0 points. Refuge Isle began with their usual dominance scoring 3 times in quick succession, but in an act of sheer defiance the Steelheads fought back replying with 3 of their own in what may be the match of the tournament so far!

Chatulan Steelheads 3 – Refuge Isle 3

Group B final standings;

Refuge Isle – pts 7 – GD 5

Melenavenian Polar Aces – pts 6 – GD 2

Felidaes' Field Leopards – pts 3 – GD -3

Chatulan Steelheads – pts 1 – GD

Well The Felidaes you were so close but the dream is over… until next time. Chatula what a final game! If only you had found the same form in the 1st 2 matches. A huge congrats to Refuge Isle and Melenavenia you are through!

Hi folks!

The judges of the Forest Interregional Writing Contest 2021 have considered each entry and have chosen a deserving winner for each category. I'd like to take this opportunity to extend to them my sincerest thanks for taking the time to collaborate with me on this project; they not only assessed each entry but also provided a substantial amount of carefully considered feedback for each piece.

So, without further ado, you can find out the winners of this year's contest in the dispatch below - as well as the winning entries, feedback from the judges, and a personal message from me to all of our entrants.

I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone and publish the August edition of the Voice of Forest at the same time. This issue tells the story of Dame Dr Jane Goodall, the primatologist who became the first (and only) human ever to be accepted into chimpanzee society. Happy reading!

Not annoying just correct. My apologies, consider it changed. I blame my minister for foreign languages. :)

Now Group C

With Endmigt unbeaten and already through, attention in Group C was for “the battle for 2nd”. The 2 most likely – Vikoland and Ariane faced off in a tense match. A win should be enough for either side and The Crowns knew this and took the lead 3 times, but the Vulpines would not be deterred levelling the score a third time and then stealing a winner with the last kick of the game. What a match! The new game of the season?

Vikoland Crowns 3 - Vraisten Vulpines 4

That result unfortunately meant the end of the tournament for the Asteroids, but coming up against The Blue Kishkaws of Endmigt they would always have been in for an uphill battle. Endmigt continued to stamp their dominance on this tournament keeping their 3rd clean sheet and taking the win.

The Blue Kishkaws of Endmigt 2 - The Ceres Station Asteroids 0

Group C final standings;

The Blue Kishkaws of Endmigt – pts 9 – GD 5

Vraisten Vulpines pts 6 – GD 2

Vikoland Crowns – pts 1 – GD -3

The Ceres Station Asteroids pts 1 – GD -4

So it’s a fond farewell to Vikoland and Inaros Opa, it was great to see you both in action, but a huge congratulations to Araine and the unstoppable Endmigt! Can anyone score against them?

So its time to decide the final 2 places in the quarter finals!

In Group D, with 4 points each a draw would see the Zapateros and the Gregballists through, but whoever finished 2nd would have to face the unbeaten Endmigt in the next round. This knowledge seemed to spur both teams on with both scoring in the 1st half. After the break, both pushed for the win with no joy, until a wonder strike from the Gregballists sent their fans into jubilation.

Nangkan Zapateros 1 - Lower French Gregballists 2

With 2 points to their name the Lethodus Ligers now knew a win would secure the final spot in the quarter finals, but they had to get past a frustrated Immortals team looking to restore some pride. (The whole of Nangkan will have been supporting the Immortals i'm sure). For the Ligers, beating the Immortals proved to be no easy feat. They were always on the back foot twice going behind to a much improved Immortals. Despite their best efforts the Ligers barely grabbed a draw.

Alanori Immortals 2 - Lethodus Ligers 2

Group D final standings;

Lower French Gregballists – pts 7 – GD 3

Nangkan Zapateros – pts 4 – GD 2

Lethodus Ligers – pts 3 – GD 0

Alanori Immortals – pts 1 – GD -5

So they shared the points today but it’s the end of the competition for Sylh Alanor who finally found some form and grabbed a point, and the second team to leave without losing a game Lethodus. Well done to Lower French Gregballs for topping the group and a very relieved Nangka

Tomorrow the teams will rest. Then it is Quarter final time!

In other news,

We here in LFG are voting against the resolution currently at vote in the WA (the one about transtion of territory) because of clause 5, which in our humble opinion, encroaches too much on NatSov. I leave it to our Legal WA experts to discuss this resolution in more detail, if they have the time.

Melenavenia wrote:Do any Refugi have a lore written for their nation that involves a violent struggle for independence?

I do and it can be found briefly in the History section of Tovenia's Factbook.

Now after a day of recovery....

Its Quarter final time! (I have changed my system to generate a 1st half score and a second half score for hopefully more dramatic games and an easier write up)

Our first match is The Star Enpire Deep One's vs The Melenavenian Polar Aces.

In the first half the nerves were back on both sides. The teams could not be split and both defences impressed standing strong. The second half continued in much the same vein. Neither team would falter and it became obvious that someone was going to have to gamble to get the result…. and it was the Deep One’s who risked it all grabbing the only goal late on in the closest game yet.

The Star Enpire Deep One's 1 - Melenavenian Polar Aces 0

Commiseration’s to the Polar Aces. Well done to the The Star Enpire who would be facing the winner of; The Blue Kishkaws of Endmigt vs Nangkan Zapateros

The undefeated Endmigt looked confident as the game started scoring twice in the first half but were quickly surprised as the Zapateros scored 2 themselves. With the Blue Kishkaws shaken this game was on a knifes edge going into the 2nd half. Again Endmigt started strongly scoring twice more, but were again left deflated as Nangkan brought the game level once more.... and then with minutes to spare dealt the final blow scoring the winner in what many consider a shock upset.

The Blue Kishkaws of Endmigt 4 - Nangkan Zapateros 5

What an upset. What a win Nangka!

Join me tomorrow for the other 2 quarter finals!

I’m back with more quarter final action and the last 2 matches in this round. We know the 1st semi-final is The Star Enpire vs Nangka but who will join them?

We start with Group B winners - Refuge Isles against the hosts Tovenia. Hougun City’s stadium “The Manor” was rocking with the fans in full voice, and it only got louder when the Guardians scored the only goal of the 1st half. With Tovenia ahead and looking good for the lead, spirits were high.... until Refuge Isle found their feet in the 2nd half, bringing the score level shortly after half time. Tension was high for both teams as the clock ticked on, until Refuge Isle dug deep scoring the winner late on.

Refuge Isle 2 – Tovenian Guardians 1

There were tears in the streets of Tovenia. The dream is over. (Gutted). Huge congratulations to Refuge Isle.

With one spot left up for grabs, all eyes were on two teams in form - the Gregballists and the Vraisten Vulpines. The game started slow with both teams testing each other but no one brave enough to commit players forward. After a goalless 1st half everyone hoped for more excitement... and the 2nd half didn’t disappoint. In a five goal thriller both teams had the lead, the Vulpines going ahead before the Gregballists replied with 2 and looked comfortable going into the last 10 minutes. However, the Vulpines equalised out of the blue and the managed to grab the winner before the Gregballists could recover.

Lower French Gregballists 2 – Vraisten Vulpines 3

So close Gregballists but you had a great tournament all the same. Well done to Araine, another last minute winner!

So Refuge Isle will face off against Vraisten Vulpines.

So I see that I'm being outvoted on the SC resolution at vote, Commend Suvmia.

This boils down to two things in my opinion. First off, it's horrendously written, and we care about writing quality here. Look at this paragraph and tell me what it means and how it got through drafting:

0 wrote:Highlighting Sumvia’s help in the creation of The United Ascendancy (TUA), a region founded by Princepterra a proxy of Laudesia, Suvmia, and Urrangslan, in 2019 the regions in TAF were on the verge of collapse due to an inactivity crisis, a multitude of nations were leaving or ceasing to exist ravishing the regional governments and communities, Suvmia’s assistance was paramount in stopping this by gathering these collapsing communities and giving them a larger, more stable, active, new region,

Secondly, there's not much here, and what's there isn't particularly commendable. Gibraltarica said the following in the forum:

0 wrote:I could name about 50 people offhand on this website who have done a lot who don't deserve a C/C, me included. To me, his accomplishments seem largely quite milquetoast. We have: founding a region that failed, founding something that was a much lesser predecessor to that which has already been attributed to Ellenburg, and being President of the URA.

I don't think being URA president is all that huge a deal, tbh. You win an election and act essentially as a PR manager. Which is alright, and that's not a useless position, but he's not doing anything worth writing home about. Congrats to the URA for making big enough diplomatic moves over the past year to actually pass this, I was intrigued when I saw how well this was doing, especially considering how this would be called out as pointless if this were just about any GCR or major UCR making a move for a similar commend. I could name about 10 people who deserve a commend more, and probably 3 or 4 in or previously in URA member regions.

She's done a lot in the same spaces as Suvmia and I would trust her judgement on this higher than I would most other people involved. Especially anyone from Refugia.

Anyway, I think this is a bad resolution and I think it's passing by a mixture of people not actually reading it and some quality political wrangling by the author and the URA.

Here's a little story for y'all.

So a frog goes to the bank and he walks up to the teller and sees that her name is Patricia Whack. He gets to the counter and he says "Hello Miss Whack, I'd like a loan for $50,000 for a vacation."

She looks at him confused, and the frog tells her "It's okay, my name is Kermit Jagger, and my father is Mick Jagger, he knows the bank manager."

Patricia, still in disbelief explains to the frog that he'll need some sort of collateral, and without hesitation, the frog replies "No problem, this should cover it," and reaches into his back pocket and pulls out a small porcelain elephant and sets it on the counter.

Patricia, at this point has had about enough of this, and excuses herself to talk to her bank manager. When she returns, she's explaining that this frog showed up and is wanting a loan, and he says his dad is Mick Jagger, and he has this tiny little elephant, what even is that anyway?

And the bank manager looks at her and he says "It's a knick knack, Patty Whack, give the frog a loan. His old man's a Rolling Stone."

Refugia is a mostly community-focused region, happier to just vibe with one another than get involved in a lot of heavy, drama-related site issues.

We have an off-site forum (https://calref.cc/) and discord server (https://calref.network/chat/) connected to our larger community Calamity Refuge, of which NationStates is only one thing we do. It’s Semi-finals day! Only four teams left;

The Star Enpire Deep One’s vs Nangkan Zapateros

Refuge Isle vs Vraisten Vulpines

With all four teams knowing that they are so close to the final, who will dig deep and grab their opportunity?

In our 1st Semi-final it was one way traffic in the 1st half with the Deep One’s scoring twice with no reply. After such an impressive last round against Endmigt, the Zapateros will have surely believed they could get back into this match in the 2nd half…. But it wasn’t to be. Try as they might the Zapateros failed to score and once they weathered the storm the Deep ones managed to score one more before the final whistle.

The Star Enpire Deep One’s 3 – Nangkan Zapateros 0

Such a shame for Nankan after some amazing results, they just seemed to run out of steam.

In the 2nd Semi-final the game was fast and frantic with the Vulpines just edging out Refuge Isle in the 1st half going in 2 – 1 up. Refuge Isle were no stranger to a come back having done it so successfully in their quarter final, and they would need to do it again to reach the final. This time however, the task proved just too great. The Vulpines defence did their job and once again the team used their pace to catch Refuge Isle on the break adding on more goal late on.

Refuge Isle 1 – Vraisten Vulpines 3

A great tournament from our founders but no final this year I'm afraid.

So we have our finalists! Well done The Star Enpire and Araine

Tomorrow the finalists will rest up whilst we find out who will take 3rd place.
