Hello, I hope you're all well!

The second issue of the Voice of Forest (yes, I forgot to actually publish the dispatch last month) is entitled "Death in the Amazon". It chronicles the efforts of pioneering conservationist Chico Mendes, who gave his life protecting the Amazon rainforest and its peoples. As always, please have a read (if you can spare a couple of minutes) and know that you're always welcome to discuss what you read either here or on the Forest RMB!

And yes, the August issue will be published later this month - I've already started researching the activist it will be focusing on. Here's a little hint: the activist in question rocked the zoological world and pushed the boundaries of what we thought was possible for humans to achieve.

I haven't thought of a "national sport" for my nation but because I really like soccer (or is known outside the US as football) if I had to choose it'd be soccer!

One quick reminder for the chat and the RMB, in about two days from this message, we'll be doing the drawings for the Lottery of All Things. There are about 69 (Great!) world assembly members in Refugia at the moment, and 58 are currently endorsing the delegate (Which, 84% is actually pretty stellar). Those 58 are qualified to get a random legendary out of all legendary cards. The only thing the remaining 11 should do is endorse Sylh Alanor. Any Refugi nation who is not in the WA can still join up and endorse the delegate.

Our national sport is Anti-Gravity Football/Soccer. It's like regular soccer/football but played in zero gravity (because we're a space-faring nation).

Welcome Phoenston, Westants, Gamers And Streamers, Auristryka, and The Felidaes to Refugia! We're mostly a community-focused region where we just do things we're interested in and are friends. If you have any questions about the game or anything else, please ask, everyone here is friendly and we have some people who are extremely knowledgeable about stuff and can help you get started on things you're interested in, whether that be cards, World Assembly watching/writing, or anything else!

We have an off-site forum (https://calref.cc/) and discord server (https://calref.network/chat/) connected to our larger community Calamity Refuge, of which NationStates is only one thing we do. If you want a friendly place to just be yourself and hang out, I can absolutely recommend checking out those community links at the top of the region page. It's been a delight to meet the couple of you that have already joined the Discord!

Finally, for those of you who haven't yet, please consider joining the World Assembly (sign up by clicking on the WA button at the left <- side of your page and confirm via email) and endorsing people! Every endorsement you give helps the region out a bit, and every endorsement you give the delegate increases our voting power. But don't worry if you don't want to do it, the main point of Refugia is just to have what fun is possible on this site and to do the things we want :)

Thanks for all the responses to my last sports post.

So the general concensus seems to be that most nations seem to play football (or soccer for our American friends) wether that is with their feet firmly on the ground or in zero gravity.

With this in mind, and in order celebrate sport across all of Refugia, Tovenia would like to announce that they will be holding Refugia's first ever Regional Football Championships (assuming there is interest).

Don't worry, you won't have to do anything other than replying to this post to say your nation will be taking part (and the name of a star player if you want to go crazy). In a weeks time if enough people message, I will assign the nations to groups and randomly generate a couple of results a day and post a daily update until there is a winner.

The prize will be that all of Refugia can come together for this tournament and of course the glory for one nation of being the Champions. Plus it would be a cool thing to put on your nations factbook.

I love this idea! I'm terribly at thinking up names (OTL) but I'd imagine the team name being related to the national animal, the leopard.

Also, I imagine Felidaes being a nation that are passionate fans who will cheer in the cold, pouring rain. Naturally, the team they're clamoring over is absolutely miserable when it comes to international competitions. Best not to say that out loud, though, a Felidaesian might throw hands.

Hello all you wonderful people. Just a quick reminder that there are now just 2 days left to register for the Regional Football (or soccer) Championships. I am pleased to say we currently have 13 nations participating which is great.....

However it is an awkward number to fit teams into even groups. Our sports minister and minister of tricky sums have assured me that 16 would be the magic number for that. We are close!

So if you would like a chance to celebrate Refugia and sport, plus bring some glory to your nation and be able to say you were the 1st ever Refugi Regional Football Champions then please just respond to this post and let me know.

For those who missed my original post you don't need to do anything other than give me a team name. I will randomly generate the scores and report a couple of results a day until there is a winner.

The choice to run a sports tournament at the same time as we are doing an RP battle tournament really is weird.

In all fairness, at least half the people who have signed up for the RMB football tourney haven't submitted any entries for the Battle of All Things. It's probably true that it doesn't affect involvement, but I'd certainly like to see more people supporting both events.

I agree. Anything that gets us all talking is a good thing. Speaking of which the "battle of all things" is well worth checking out if people haven't already! It will be a lot of fun. :)

I'm trying to decide what design will be the definitive for my nation's flag and I cannot decide myself, so I did a poll on this twitter thread uwu https://twitter.com/SyndgjardSol_/status/1429413084200906755 I wanted to do a more actual design, and I've come up with 4 very similar options that are shown on the thread. So today we had 2 big time match-ups in Group B taking place in the city of Dane in the “Den” Stadium at the foot of the Fenrir’s Teeth Mountains.

In a group full of big nations, our first game today saw Melenavenia go up against Chatula in a match up that had all the hallmarks of a classic and it didn’t disappoint. In a close match both teams scored early and then pushed each other to the limit until 2 wonder strikes in the last five minutes saw The Polar Aces clinch the win.

Our second match pitted our founders Refuge Isle against the ever optimistic The Felidaes. A nation of hopeful Felidaes' Field Leopards fans were off their feet quickly as they got off to a dream start scoring first. The pressure however quickly seemed to get to the Leopards as Refuge Isle found a higher gear… and then another, eventually scoring 4 without reply.

Tomorrow we turn our attention to Group C with Vikoland Crowns against The Blue Kishkaws of Endmight and The Ceres Station Asteroids vs the Vraisten Vulpines!

The City of Wincaster welcomed the Group C openers in the “Hall” and the fans were treated to two more great matches.

First we saw a hard hitting match between Vikoland and Endmigt. The Crowns looked strong, but for all their good play they were unable to find the back of the net. The Blue Kishkaws weathered the storm and eventually broke the deadlock in the 70th minute adding a second just before full time.

The late kick-off between Inaros Opa and Araine yielded the same outcome. The Asteroids started strong twice hitting the woodwork, but as the match rolled on they began to tire and that is where the Vulpines pace gave them the edge. 2 lightning goals in the second half won them the 3 points.
