You have to join the WA before you can endorse people, mobile or other platform.

It seems that everyone's favorite part of the game is nationbuilding, I also think it's great but I didn't this would be unanimous ^^ I'm quite surprised and happy to see it !

I'm happy to be in the minority. I like the community (in all 4 regions I currently hold active nations). If not for the inetraction on the RMB, I'd just allow my nations to CTE.

I also think that the interactions add something cool to the game, nationbuilding is fun and many people love it (including me), but talking with different people and discovering what they have built and why is incredible !

The main draw of NationStates to me is the amount I can do with the nation itself, and how I can build this nation over years of fine-tuning and writing. Community is my main draw to the internet in general, but I consider NationStates to be something that CalRef does, without being the central space where the community functions. I love that we have people talk in the RMB who are exclusively here, and I really enjoy talking to those people here. It's a fun aspect of the site without necessarily being the main draw for me.

I see there were a number of votes in the Security Council before I got mine in today! That's really cool, I'm always happy to see people taking an interest in voting. We should definitely be talking about our approaches to these things and why we vote the way we do. So let me kick this discussion period off.

Resolution at Vote: Commend LadyRebels

Thread: SC Forum

So one of the things I like to look at, before everything else, is writing quality. Not so much the technical mastery or quality of the writing itself, since we have people writing who aren't native English speakers, but instead the ability to coherently and qualitatively make their argument. If you have done the research and you have plenty of information gathered on your target, you should be able to explain at length why you think they should be commended (or condemned). That simply isn't visible here. This proposal is exceptionally vague because it doesn't have very much to base its arguments on. The target, while a long-standing member of the community and certainly regionally important in antiquity, simply isn't uniquely commendable.

0 wrote:Recalling that in June 2003, the ACC placed a tyrant, Alpha C, as Delegate of the South Pacific, who turned the South Pacific into a puppet state of the ACC; the Coalition of the South Pacific, the fledgling government of the South Pacific, was largely helpless and seemingly unlikely to regain its sovereignty over the region,

This becomes extremely confused and a bit word salad due to the fact that the author chooses not to end a sentence. The semicolon after ACC should have been caught in the drafting phase and changed, because it doesn't actually accomplish the goal the author is hoping for.

0 wrote:Admiring LadyRebels' bravery after securing the delegacy of the South Pacific when Alpha C was ejected from the United Nations (UN); on its own free will, it turned on the ACC and heroically restored the CoalitionÂ’s sovereignty, boldly defying orders from High Commander of the ACC Pilmour; LadyRebels then resigned from the ACC and openly assured natives that they would no longer be terrorised by the ACC, selflessly destroying all of its standing within the ACC for the cause of good,

I don't really know how to describe my feelings on this. It definitely crosses a line where I feel mildly uncomfortable reading it. The choices of "bravery", "on its own free will", "heroically", "selflessly" "the cause of good" as terms and words in this are exceptionally off-putting, at least to me. It's way too much.

If you read the thread, you can further see problems in that the author mostly ignored feedback and pushed forward on a project almost unanimously considered a waste of time. Again and again, people who are experienced in both Security Council writing and r/d history projects like this one stated this target isn't commendable. In constantly ignoring the feedback, the author has submitted something that, in my opinion at least, isn't worthy of support. The target could be amazing, I don't know, because there just isn't much information available.

What information is included in the proposal, namely the continued praise of how LadyRebels set up the systems and culture of the South Pacific, is largely debunked as well. Sedgistan states the following:

0 wrote:(responding to: and building a lot of the infrastructure and culture of the South Pacific)

You're trying to draw a line between LR's delegacy 17 years ago and TSP's current successes that just does not exist. The region was an inactive wasteland for years under Fudgetopia's neglectful rule, followed by an even more neglectful rule when Southern Bellz was handed the reins. None of your regional WA votes, defender military or democracy were in evidence in those years. That they reappeared later is a credit to those who invested time in TSP over the last decade, not to a figure who, nice person though she is, has been irrelevant to gameplay for 15 years.

Ultimately, the arguments in the proposal can be boiled down to "this is a raider who defected after couping a region to remain its delegate", which is framed as a selfless and heroic act, but ignores the fact that the person originally entered that position of power through an illegitimate coup. It further argues that this is a delegate who ran a stable delegacy without giving the timeframe of that delegacy (which could have been as little as 7 months) and without providing the context of what was considered to be a stable delegacy or the prestige of a delegacy in a GCR at the time, almost two decades ago.

This is woefully lacking in detail, and gives very little in the way of argument over why this target is commendable. Add to that the author's response to negative feedback in the thread, and I'm voting, very emphatically, Against.

Regarding the above proposal, I have previously detailed my thoughts in the Security Council board.

The target is better known in TSP, where the discussion of them inspired the author to draft this, but I'm not convinced that even the bulk of the South Pacific is on board to support this proposal (although the nature of RMB populism voting causes them to do so). Being early to run basic programs like UN votes is not inherently commendable, not getting couped is not inherently commendable. I also think there's often this tendency to support work in GCRs as being larger-than-life and transcendent beyond us UCR mortals, but ultimately work is work. If establishing a Councillor of World Assembly Affairs is not inherently commendable in Refugia why is it in TSP?

Ultimately, I don't believe that the target contributed as much as the contemporaries that Python compares the nominee to -- those nations who have been celebrated and widely renowned from that era and saved regions from destruction. The resolution brings no new compelling information to light, and the case that it makes on behalf of the targets' actions some 17 years ago is generally weak and poorly constructed. There is no statute of limitations on contributions, but the author seems to be relying on the lack of available information and familiarity, where fewer supporting details are available to either contribute or disprove the argument.

As written, the target is either not commendable or requires a stronger author to argue the point. Although I am partial to the opinion that it is the former.

Also Against.

Stuff like "Appreciating that LadyRebels has shown further dedication to the Coalition by serving in a multitude of positions such as Secretary and Undersecretary of Intelligence, Editor of the South Pacific Independent News Network and Chairperson" is just listing a bunch of positions whilst saying nothing about what they did in those positions and how they were good. Clauses like that alone is an automatic no for me. I agree with Sylh Alanor and Refuge Isle and have voted against (on my WA puppet)

I was thinking of subscribing to Netflix but I don't see any good reason.Actually, here in Greece, our national public broadcaster,ERT,introduced something called "ERTflix".Its basically just like Netflix but it's free.I'm watching several series in that platform.

I rarely ever watch anything, Netflix included-- most of the media I intake is either in the form of music or text. However, I do occasionally go through phases (maybe three-ish times a year) of binging one particular show until I'm finished with it.

Am I the only one to HBO rather than Netflix? :-)

Not much on there for me either, other than my two favs.

BTW my ranking in freedoms keeps going down (though still at 'very good' for now...), and the economy can't seem to improve from 'fragile'.

But whatever... I decided to go ahead as I see fit.

I don't have Netflix or a desire to get it either. The BBC creates lots of good shows and they have loads of Scandinavian Crime Dramas on iPlayer so I tend to watch those. :)

I don't really think that's a great idea, it totally goes against our region's values and we clearly do not want to invade a bigger region just to replace a democratic-elected WA Delegate.

It's actually HBO Go I'm using (though I think it's available in cable in Hungary as well).

I like Billions and Succession. Mare of Easttown is another good one, when I'm in the mood. I just can't get into any 'fantasy' stuff... As soon as you whip out the dragons and the elves, I'm gooone. :)

My dad is currently watching those first two, so I've seen an episode or two of each. They're not bad, but not exactly my thing either; I tend prefer sci-fi and fantasy type shows myself

To each their own :)

The closest I got to 'fantasy' (isn't strictly that, but not exactly a documentary, either) is Back to the future. I guess it's also that I was growing up at the time so it left a lasting impression.

In any case, I love it to this day.

Hey there, Allokyus president here. Today, i come here with bad news. Nuclear annihilation is at bay and our future are at risk. Nations of Refugia, prepare your nuclear silos, load your anti-missile systems and evacuate your civilians to the nuclear bunkers. Allokyus will provide long range missile defense and will open her doors to any refugees. Bring all of your nuclear capable warships to Inkopolis Bay and pray for the best. One thing is sure: if any nukes fall on our beautiful Refugia, we will retaliate with enough power to bring all hostile nations back to stone age. President of Allokyus out.

Don't worry! It's just an annual game that NS runs called N-Day. We'll all get the option to opt in and build shields or nuclear missiles which we can use to launch attacks at others or block the shots of others.

Hey there, president of Allokyus here. I bring great news in these dark times. Our star frigate has finished construction on the Inkopolis Shipyards and it's now awaiting on the Inkopolis Bay for her special heavy boosters to arrive from High Reiserland. She's now commissioned under the Refugia Space Program code "SCRS". The crew will be launched separately from a launching pad a few kilometers from Inkopolis. The SCRS Refugia first assignment will be a exploratory mission on Jupiter's moon Titan to explore it's deep oceans and look for microbial life. Since we are at the middle of a nuclear war, the Allokyusan Navy Battlegroup Romeo and the 77th Air Division will create a 2 km no-fly zone to avoid enemy missile strikes. All leaders of Refugia are invited to attend the ceremony of commission (we'll use a grape soda bottle since champagne is pretty expensive). President of Allokyus out.

In other news, Sky Admiral Barahar ib-Baqr announced today the mighty Pi-Ramesses Fleet would not be engaged in the war and that the Horus Admiralty will be focused solely on humanitarian missions instead.

"Today is an important day for us all," Admiral ib-Baqr said in a public statement while meeting the Alexandrian Press Corps. "Regardless of the world and nations are at war or not, our commitment towards a more peaceful solution where men, women, and everyone in-between can be at peace once and for all is a new chapter for our great nation. Make no mistake, however, should we be fired upon or if innocent lives are in danger, let our enemies know that any aggression against unarmed civilians is an aggression towards New Pi-Ramesses."

Bold and noble words from our dear Sky Admiral! We will provide updates as we receive them.

Up next, has the price of owning cats risen lately? We ask dog owners for their input!

N-Day is an annual event that takes place in late September where everyone is able to opt into a game where they gain production at a timed rate and can build either missiles or shields. There are factions and everyone tries to annihilate one another. It was last weekend.

Welcome to our new members Yepristan,Ana Karath,Esunge Ararao,Libaeiria, Cleston,Ohunana and Canadian Cooperative Commonwealths !

Refugia is a mostly community-focused region, happier to just vibe with one another than get involved in a lot of heavy, drama-related site issues. If you have any questions about how NationStates or regional stuff or anything else works, please feel comfortable asking questions. In the Refugia's Message Board (RMB). Everyone's very nice and we have a lot of people around who have deep knowledge of many site activities.

If you haven't already and if you want to, please consider joining the World Assembly and endorsing some of your regionmates. Every endorsement generates more Refugia-exclusive Influence. It also increases our voting power at the World Assembly (more information on that is in the WA link below). If you don't feel up to it or don't really want to, that's also entirely fine.

We have an off-site forum (https://calref.cc/) and discord server (https://calref.network/chat/) connected to our larger community Calamity Refuge, of which NationStates is only one thing we do ! If you want a friendly place to just be yourself and hang out, I can absolutely recommend checking out those community links at the top of the region page. We also run weekly movie nights in our discord server.

I know that's a lot, and I'm sorry if things feel a bit overwhelming. Just know that we're all here and want to be friends, so take things as quickly or slowly as you like, and we'll all be here for the ride. Thanks for joining us !

A short update for you this evening: our beloved regional map has just received an update. It now features the proud nations of Undomia, Literatana, and Sample Chefs. It is a lot of Sample Chefs. A lot of chefs who give out samples at the grocery store. Good that they have a home finally.

I also regrettably announce that Nerdy Tangent and Floofybit have been removed from the map after several months of not existing or no longer resigning in the region.
