Welcome to Yturia, Society Of Green Socialists, Gulag Of Big Chungus, Elythion, The Great Babylon, Krajno, Drogate, Sharles, The Lowlands Of Holland, Chukka Chitty, Mulossia, Nancentgua, and Yanklion!

It's so nice to have you all here! You've already received our welcome telegram, which gives a lot of quality information, but I wanted to point a few things out real quick that might help you settle into the region a bit better. Refugia is part of a larger community named Calamity Refuge, or CalRef. We have a discord here: https://calref.network/chat/ and a forum here: https://calref.cc/index.php. If you'd like to be in a place where you can just chill and be around friendly people, those are the links for you. We host game nights and movie nights from the discord server, and have been recently making our way through the Studio Ghibli catalogue.

If you're interested and haven't already done so, please consider joining the World Assembly! Click the link to learn more information on that. If you join the WA, you can endorse other nations in the region (endorsing the delegate increases our regional vote) and get endorsed in return. You'll also become a Refugia Member State, which means you can vote in our elections and get a spot on our map of Refugia!

If you have any questions, please let us know. Everyone here is really friendly and almost never bite other people. If you'd rather read up on things instead of asking though, here's a dispatch that can help: https://www.nationstates.net/page=dispatch/id=1449847

I would put an amogus plushie in the cave so when they look at it they will look at each other and be very concerned because that means amogus is real and has been around for all time. I would also put a tangerine in there to make scientists think that tangerines have been around even longer than oranges (even though tangerines did come before oranges already).

Hoi Refugia! A bit late on this like always, but we've got a new thing in the General Assembly at vote! The resolution is titled "Peace And Sustainable Development" and you can vote on it here. You can find the debate thread here.

Peace and Sustainable Development seeks to discourage "unnecessary armed conflicts" through a variety of aid supplements in key areas like education. It regulates the process of distribution of humanitarian aid to recipient nations and encourages a comprehensive education on sustainable development and sapient rights. Furthermore, it institutes the World Assembly Peace Prize, a Nobel Prize-esque award that recognizes a person or a group which contributed to the prevention of conflict resolution and prevention, and outlines its requisite procedure.

...nope, absolutely not. I categorically oppose any resolution that seeks to create a Nobel Prize-esque award in the WA and think that there far more better things to legislate things on than a useless prize that achieves no practical purpose apart from providing a new avenue for political self-pats. I get the intent of this, but there are far better ways to promote peace and stability than awarding a prize to supposedly deserving people with no fixed objective criteria to judge just how deserving they are. Also, most of the clauses written here either ineffective in nature or isn't strong enough to do something real about the concerns it raises and I really don't like the implications the definition of "unnecessary armed conflict" brings to the table.

What do y'all think?

I'll do a proper welcome post soon for you and the other new people, but in the meantime you can check out this post I made the other day welcoming some people who came slightly before. In summary, we're a community outside of NationStates, and we maintain Refugia as well. We're mostly interested in chatting and having fun with one another, we play community game nights, we have community movie nights in our discord server. In terms of NS, we are trying to restart a tendency to discuss World Assembly proposals as they come up, which was a thing we did for a while and now is less common, but more frequent under our current WAA Councillor than it was for a while.

We also have people who are well-versed in many different activities on the site. We have people involved in r/d (though we as a region are not involved with any of that), we have people who are working in the NS cards-sphere, we have a lot of WA authors. What are you interested in doing?

Hey look I made a poll

https://www.nationstates.net/region=refugia#poll

Typica, Sylh Alanor, Vikoland, Floofybit, Allokyus, Imperve, Haibaria

Hoi Refugia! We've got a new thing up in the Security Council, titled "Commend Elegarth". You can vote on it here and you can view its debate thread here.

I'm in favor of this. The nominee is a longtime and respected member of the international community and has worked for the betterment of mainly two regions, The Pacific and The West Pacific. While their regions of involvement seem rather limited compared to the previous nominee (Mount Seymour) we discussed, they've certainly left their mark there. Elegarth was the leader of the resistance group that opposed the DEN-led coup of TWP in 2015, and served as the new legitimate Delegate of the region in its immediate aftermath. Chief amongst their multitude of contributions there was the creation of a Code Of Conduct that was aimed to develop a healthy community in the region, and their negotiation of the Treaty of Friendship with Europeia, a healthy bond that still exists up to this day. They've also worked to restore TP's (and to that extent, the NPO's) public image after a 2018 scandal led to them being Condemned for a second time. They alongside Xoriet and the now-retired Pierconium, were crucial in getting that Condemnation repealed earlier this year and have restored many of the region's previously lost allies and made new ones along the way, including TWP itself. They were also one of the earliest players to collect all Legendary trading cards when it was first released, and contributed to the development of TP's regional cards program by mentoring several new players, including the well-known Vylixan/Sitethief. And finally, they've worked for raising awareness about autism throughout NationStates, evident by their creation of the NationStates Autism Acceptance And Education Week and the Autism Awareness Month (March) in TWP.

Moving on to the resolution itself, it's decently written. The author has established a clear narrative about Elegarth's community-building work and tried to stick with it. While some of the mentioned things might not necessarily relate to community-building at a first glance (mostly the foreign affairs stuffs), I don't consider it to be that much of a dealbreaker. An argument can be made that the nominee's contributions in TWP and TP seems scanty in nature and that more details need to be included before they could be considered a deserving nominee, but it's my belief that the contents of the resolution are sufficient enough and make a convincing case for a Commendation. The only other concerns I can see here are in the Extolling clause, which seems to be half-full of fluff and job descriptions instead of anything Commendable, and the first subpoint of the Believing clause, which focuses on the treaty with TWP, a region Elegarth is/was a major figure of and the influence they hold there that might've contributed to its ratification.

What do y'all think about this?

Welcome! If you want to become influential in the region, the first step would be to become a member state, which would involve joining the World Assembly (click the link on the sidebar, sign up, then confirm via email). Once you do that, after seven days you'll become a Refugia Member State, which will allow you to vote in our elections, run for office, get on the map, and give/gain endorsements. If you give me (the delegate) an endorsement, the region becomes more influential, but you'll also gain in-game influence by receiving endorsements.

I'll do a proper welcome post soon for you and the other new people, but in the meantime you can check out this post I made the other day welcoming some people who came slightly before.
