Hoi Refugia! It seems like we've got a new General Assembly proposal coming up to vote soon. Titled "Self-Defence Education Compact", you can read it here and view the debate thread here.

The proposal seeks to make primary and secondary school include mandatory self-defense and small-scale conflict resolution in their curriculum, and urges that more advanced training is given to those who have already mastered the basics. It also places importance on staying physically fit and active and mandates physical education classes for the above-described groups as well.

This is...weird. First off, the definition (Article a) is kinda irky to me, which states that;

This has got quite a few problems with it. The first and the most obvious one is that it straight up ignores any specialized primary or secondary institutions that might be out there. This neglects a significant chunk of students who're studying in schools that puts emphasis on religious education, or students of schools that have a pure science-focused curriculum.

Furthermore, it doesn't consider about those pursuing home education and leaves vague undertones about what to do for them. When your proposal is acting as a blocker for any future resolution that might supplement it, you really have to make sure that it's flawless from start to finish. This definition doesn't seem thoughtful at all and creates a surefire way to get this repealed.

Moving on to Article b;

I'm not exactly sure that mandating PE to every student without considering their choice is a good thing. For me, PE has always been an elective subject that people could always not choose to attend. So to force it upon students without at least taking account of their wishes is extremely uncomfortable with me and I can't bring myself to agree with this at all.

Plus, there is no mention of disabled students who might not be able to participate in PE activities. The author's response here is that educators will find a way to make those students fit in with the system, which seems like a really cop-out and lazy response to me. Especially considering we've talked about how definitions and laws can be interpreted in a thousand different ways, giving way to countless loopholes that make a particular legislation worthless in nature. The author not choosing to provide specific regulations for disabled students and instead relying upon interpretation of others have done exactly that.

In Article c, we find;

Same problems as Article b here. Mandatory measures for something like this feels overboard to me and doesn't take into account of the students, while it simultaneously ignores the existence of disabled students that might not be able to pick up the requisite techniques taught here without special consideration.

I'm also not sure about the merits of teaching about self-defense and conflict resolution to younglings instead of teaching them about how to identify the said dangers they'll be protecting themselves from. Like yes, I get that it's important to be prepared for any stranger danger coming towards you, but as Sylh Alanor puts it;

So following this logic, shouldn't we teach students how to identify the said dangers first and not give them any chance to suffer through some sorts of trauma, instead of teaching them what to do when they're in a said traumatic experience before on?

I'm not exactly a fan of this, if it wasn't clear by now. What do y'all think?

The longer you exist, the population increase, when you look at the population zoom, it looks so... organised and it will only go up, no issues increase or decrease it so you just have to wait.

I missed this question earlier, but your population rises automatically at the end of each day. It starts off slow, with only 1-2 million and eventually caps out at a random value between 5 and 7 million per day.

*Refugi, and no, you're totally free to RP on the forum as much as you want. The region generally doesn't do much RP (except whatever Moulk is doing lol), we're more of a chat community who hangs out and does fun things. By interacting with people on the forums, you're still in this region, but you can talk to everyone who plays the game, and it can meet your needs a bit better.

I mean, example I took a place on map. And another nation in not refugia is in other world with a different map, how it will work?

If they're not in Refugia, we technically do not acknowledge them within the same plane of reality as we are. Perhaps they are in an alternate dimension. Or perhaps our exploratory agents have yet to locate them.
