It's February 1[sup]st[/sup], and this means that election season has returned once again, as we must elect a new Regional Council. The Council is a group of co-equal leaders who oversee Refugia's administration, making decisions and running projects that benefit the rest of us. In our democratic region, any Member State has the capacity to run for this office and vote for their desired leaders.

We will have one election for every week this month according to this convention:

In each election, the first two days are for candidacy. The remaining five days are for voting (if necessary).

The first office up for election is the Operations Councillor. In addition to being the front line of regional security, the Ops Councillor coordinates our response to crises and catastrophes which may befall or impact our region. At least one of those are expected to take place every term, and with a number of game tech changes on the way, may be valuable to us.

The Councillor of Foreign Affairs handles our relationships with other regions, our diplomacy with them, for we could always use more friends.

The Councillor of Culture helps set up events like game and movie nights, regional competitions, and helps to generally advance Refugi culture along with any events we want to do with other regions.

And the Councillor of World Assembly Affairs helps develop, determine, and articulate our position on resolutions in the World Assembly as a region. We have a lot of votes these days, so it's important we use them wisely.

Anyone with interest in these jobs can leverage their determination by running for office to help Refugia continue to be a top-tier region on NationStates. So, if you're reading these descriptions and believing that some of these could be areas in which you would like to work, please consider announcing your candidacy when the positions come up. Candidacy is currently open for the Councillor of Operations, and declarations can be given in either the RMB or #ground-floor of the discord server.

There will not be any further regional telegrams about election season. So, if you want to keep up with events, you can check for updates in the World Factbook Entry of our main region page, or look for announcements to be posted in the RMB.

Map Update!

I'm pleased to announce that I've just finished updating the map files for the next update here. Probably about the biggest map update I've ever done.

Newly added to the map are Honeydewistania, Djorner, Germakia, Pangeodrea, and Forest Haven, along with their new-found cultures, notably fruit and tree huggers. If anything seems wonky about your additions, please make mention of that.

Axolotlta has also had a territorial expansion, Araine has been made green, and Chacapoya has discovered its inner self.

The zone map has been visited by a new alliance called the North Island Cooperative Entente, which is carried across a variety of northern maritime states. This zone map is a little bit beta, so there isn't a super great way for me to express membership in multiple treaties yet, but hopefully that will work out a little better over time.

Finally, Undomia has been removed from the map, as they have ceased to exist. This is about the fifth or so nation to have occupied this island and then disassociated from reality immediately. As a result, I have put a label on their previous residence and it shall forever be known as cursed island 👀
