Hello Refugia! It's time for a World Assembly discussion post, woohoo. This one is on the in-queue General Assembly proposal, A Treaty on Time Travel.

This proposal is the World Assembly regulating time travel to try and stop things like major changes in history, paradoxes, or generally things going wrong due to time travel. A somewhat controversial idea, however, given that time travel largely doesn't exist. Some may oppose it just for this, but let's look a little deeper.

As an aside, the agency name is great.

The first few clauses are reasonable, making sure time travel doesn't fall into the wrong hands and making sure that future TEMPO informs current TEMPO of time travel knowledge that current TEMPO doesn't but should know. Section 4 is where things get a little funky. It reads:

A clause like this is necessary for a proposal such as this one. While 4c is a little vague and subjective, I don't think it's a dealbreaker.

Sections 5 and 6 are sensible, prohibiting time meddling and paradox-making.

Sections 7 and 8, however, are where things go south. They read:

The problem with Section 7 is that it could be interpreted to be an ex post facto law, meaning it charges perpetrators of actions for doing that action even before it was illegal. These are illegal under WA law, and rightfully so. Section 7 could mean that breaking future resolutions is not permissible, which is unfair if you don't know what those future resolutions are.

The problem with Section 8 is that TEMPO may not exist in that separate timeline/alternative dimension, so there would be no authority to report to. Oops. You could also say that "immediately" has no meaning because time has no meaning in this proposal, although I'm less convinced with this one.

One small quibble is using "should" or "obliged" which might be interpreted as non-binding, but IRL should is binding in many places, so this concern probably has no weight.

You shouldn't have to change the wording just because one guy couldn't understand, you already did what you needed to do, you explained what you meant well and within a professional manner.

While it is true that they put the title of their position in Refugia, it is still, just a title, I can see how someone could get possibly confused between in-game and IRL comments it is not necessarily harmful to someone reading, plus we are all just here to have fun and interact, are we not? :)

Time travel really scares me but if when you went back in time and it created and artificial universe copy where you could study the past without consequences, that would be cool.

Hello Refugia! It's time for a World Assembly discussion post. This one is on the at-vote Security Council proposal, Commend One Small Island.

Commend One Small Island is the replacement for the recently-repealed previous version of Commend One Small Island. One Small Island is a longtime Warzone delegate (in fact, the longest ever) who has put incredible amounts of work into building Warzone Sandbox, as well as introducing the Warzone Control Council to help the Warzone regions. They are also an accomplished military participant, a powerful Foreign Affairs component, a region traveler, and an artwork collector.

This proposal is undoubtedly far better than its predecessor, which is riddled with grammatical errors and jarring text. Indeed, this proposal has a great nominee and as is most work produced by Morover and Thousand Branches, a wonderful resolution that lives up to its nominee. I am in full support of this.

What are your thoughts?

Generally I think that One Small Island has passed the threshold that's necessary to be recognised by the Security Council. And provided there are not glaring issues in the proposal, I'm fine with supporting it (and a Refugi author).
