I use good old Microsoft paint.

For my part, a lot of times these days I'm using Adobe Illustrator. More complex projects are on After Effects, of all things, because I know how to use it better than I do Photoshop.

I don't think I have super a lot to say about this proposal. It follows with my standard of "Did they make an incredible impact in their region or did they make an impact / change NationStates?" and I feel that the former is certainly true. The proposal articulates how they've been building Euro for years and running it's content production and media apparatus to a degree that adds quality and depth to the region. I feel like the resolution makes the case to adequately convince me where I would otherwise be sceptical, so I support it.

While a good question, it might be one that's difficult to answer. r/d, especially now, is more sectarian than any time I've personally been around to see it. A lot of people feel strongly about their positions, as the cultures between raiders and defenders are pretty markedly different and, often times, with mutually exclusive social groups.

But I'll answer as requested.

I'm also known as Lucabaduka, Warden-Commander of The Grey Wardens, the largest defender military on NationStates. Years ago, I was a raider in The Black Hawks, the details of my time in both organisations and everything in between located in my history dispatch.

As you might remember (since I'm pretty sure you were there), I became a raider at the point in my life where I was sick and unable to keep running Refugia. It also immediately followed a year of me working in the World Assembly without much success, working in the card community finding it difficult to get along with folks. So, I wasn't in great shape and I was pretty bent about the state of the world, so I shuttered the region, and gave recommendations on where people could go. My friend from the cards community, Feu De Glace, who lived here for a long time, said that I should try tag raiding before leaving the site. So, we did that together for several months, it went better than I expected, but we were eventually told by admin that we needed to change how our tools worked to stay legal. That took a little bit too much time, so we joined The Black Hawks and got a little bit more involved in the raider world than I think we expected. Or at least more than I did.

I ended up doing over 1,500 hits on various regions in the name of TBH, largely ones that long lost their native population. But also one ones that had not, including nine which we occupied, five of which could not be liberated, three of which were destroyed utterly, two of which were problematic, and one that was not. And every time I was asked how I felt about it, did I enjoy it was I having a good time, etc. I was skilled at it, and I was *successful*. I personally carried out the griefing of LNA, I prevented the liberation of SP. But I wasn't having a good time, and I was wishing I were on the other side of the conflicts. The targets that raiders pick for destruction are picked because they're considered desirable, and what makes a juicy target is one that people put a lot of time and effort into. Lots of nations, RMB posts, dispatches, embassies -- things that have been built can be burned. I ultimately found that region destruction is diametrically opposed to everything that I've ever tried to do in both Refugia and CalRef itself. Betraying that identity was the thing upsetting me.

I switched and that sucked because, again, generally the r/d factions don't talk much to the other and have isolated social groups for that reason. Still, my goal was to work to undo the damage that I did in raiding. I ended up hitting that threshold, statistically, but that goal could not be achieved, as the destruction I did was not reversible, substantively. But I went at it anyway and moved between defender orgs until I felt that I fit in. I've *kept* at it because I think everyone should be entitled to stay in the region of their choosing and keep building their homes, regardless of whether or not it becomes mechanically possible to destroy it. The last region CalRef made on NationStates was broken up by a raid, and I have no doubt that Refugia would be targeted if I were deleted. So, I defend because I wouldn't want that to happen to anyone else, and now I've ended up as one of the top leaders in defenderdom.

Do I recommend getting involved in defending? Uh. It's certainly the most active and high-tempo part of NationStates, for whatever that means. In chasing, we follow raiders into their targets to prevent their capture, and there's often less than five seconds of reaction time available before they've hit. So with raiders that try targets at a twenty second cadence, it's a very intense operation, and with raiders that move once over the course of a 90 minute update, it's very dull. It can be stressful when the stakes are high, or overwhelming in an 80-person liberation. And it can be very rewarding when you succeed despite long odds and unfavourable mechanics. But a lot of times, it's just a bunch of us who all know and like each other, showing up to update when we can, talking to each other about our lives, trying to figure out what weird thing raiders are planning and how to stop it. I think people generally vibe with that kind of life and keep at it, or they don't and shouldn't try to push it.

But we could always use more help, so it's an option if you can pace yourself.

As a simple fan of him (which could make this bias), He's has always entertained people including me despite his controversaries, since i know he doesn't intentionally cause harm with his jokes (and satire content in the past). But yea, there are times where he would cross the line and he himself even admitted to it. But soo far he claims on trying to prevent those to happen in the future, and he seems to proved it by not having controversies in the past months. So yes, i like him.

I've never been a fan, it's just not my type of content so I've always ignored him.

When I do hear about some of the things he does I'm aware it's probably the worst things if it's made it to the corners of the internet I inhabit, but it does make me feel like even if he did change his content style to something I preferred I still probably wouldn't watch it. Things like casually using slurs while gaming just completely put me off a person.

Hello Refugia! It's time for a World Assembly discussion post. This one is on Reducing Light Pollution.

Reducing Light Pollution is a proposal to create a WA department responsible for certifying lights that minimize light pollution, while also mandating that governments and companies switch to these lights as soon as possible. It also has the department and member states cooperate to create dark sky reserves for the sake of science, nature, education, culture, and public enjoyment.

As the author, I recuse myself from personal input.

What are your thoughts?

Funnily enough, I just answered an issue about lights in cities; and I might have installed this World Assembly proposal already lol. (Basically just subsidized stargazers as government officials)

I think its a good idea because light pollution is a real problem, but to set up a dark sky reserve, it may be helpful to have a DIM-certified light blocker that can help define parts of the borders of these dark sky reserves especially when nearby an urban area. Also, it would be funny for Sections 6 and 8 there was a DIM-representing mascot that is a nocturnal animal, like the aye-aye or something.
