For me the best dinosaur is the Dilophosaurus, the acid spitters on him are just... exquisite. Like that is probably the only dinosaur I've ever had an addiction to. It's just so freakishly awesome.

Hi all! New to the region but have been playing NS off and on for years. Never reallt participated much in whatever region I was in(other than endorsements and voting) but I'd like to change that. When I read the description of this region I knew this was the one

This region is the NationStates presence of an older community called Calamity Refuge, founded in 2008. In 2010 we coined the term "Refugi" since we wanted to avoid calling ourselves "Refugees", for obvious reasons. Before than, other terms floated around like "CalRuffians" but didn't carry as much lasting appeal.

This region is named after our second Minecraft server by the same name, which we ran in 2013ish.

Due to the Treat of Tordesallis in 1494, Portugal was given control of half of the world (This included Europe, Asia, and Africa).

Portugal was the first nation to reach India and started the spice trade and owned it for a few centuries before being overthrown by the Dutch.

Today, Portugal does not have much influence in the world but its impact on history has been monumental.

I think I have some problems with this post.

The Treaty of Tordesillas was related to what lands Portugal and Spain were allowed to colonize. That isn't as much that they were given (by whom?) control of half the world, and more that they decided (as many white settlers did) that they just controlled everything because they said so. Portugal's empire at height was composed of modern-day Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, and a peppering of micro islands.

This kinda bothers me because it treats people in India as not being people or otherwise being some kind of NPCs. The first people to reach India were Indians, fifty thousand years ago, later forming some of the earliest agricultural settlements, eight and a half thousand years ago, with the indian-developed sanskrit language spreading as to as far away as Turkey by two thousand five hundred years ago.

Trade goods were already going out to China and Buddhist missionaries were sent to Mediterranean Europe by 185 BCE. Portugal wasn't even the first Europeans to deal with people from India, as they were already trading with the Roman empire through trade ports in Arabia by the same time period. I assume you mean that Portugal "owned the spice trade", because certainly neither they nor the dutch owned india.

They are however, a member of the United Nations, European Union, the euro zone, and NATO, which are functionally the largest economic and military powers that exist.

If anything I think mongolia was the answer.... I mean like Mongolia today gets somewhat of a bad rap, and I know several people who don't even know that mongolia exists. And they kinda did own almost half of the world.
