Hello Refugia! It's time for a World Assembly discussion post. This one is on Reducing Natural Disease Reservoirs.

Reducing Natural Disease Reservoirs is a proposal to address zoonotic diseases found in non-sapient beings that may be transmitted to sapient beings. It does this with a wide array of regulations and mandates, relating to information keeping, immunization, warnings, testings, and food consumption.

I know next to nothing about the subject matter, but it appears that the author does. They take care to address any adverse effects of their mandates, as shown in Sections 2h, 3, and 4.

What are your thoughts?

I stake my point. The Weapons Of Mass Destruction banner looks like a granola bar.

Haven't been here in a long time... But, I agree with this proposal. Everything needs to be done to avoid another pandemic, in-game and in real life. Quite interesting to see these kind of proposals in the WA. Thanks for sharing.

Also Winston Churchill was a horrible monster of a person and should not be venerated in the least. The man literally had people killed in not only India, but also South Africa and several other countries that were unfortunate enough to be controlled by the UK during his lifetime. He was basically an enemy to anyone who wasn't both white and living in England, the US, or maybe western Europe but I don't know the latter for sure. People think highly of him because he was in charge of the UK during WW2, but he oversaw a lot more than that.

This region is the NationStates presence of an older community called Calamity Refuge, founded in 2008. In 2010 we coined the term "Refugi" since we wanted to avoid calling ourselves "Refugees", for obvious reasons. Before than, other terms floated around like "CalRuffians" but didn't carry as much lasting appeal.

This region is named after our second Minecraft server by the same name, which we ran in 2013ish.

Hello Refugia! It's time for a World Assembly discussion post. This one is on Commend Shizensky Prime.

Commend Shizensky Prime is a proposal to recognize Shizensky's regionbuilding in 10000 Islands, extensive defending work in the Renegade Islands Alliance, commitment to foreign affairs, and incredible mentoring of many famous NSers.

Overall, it's hard to be against this resolution. It's well done, well researched, has a great nominee, and promotes a defender cause, which I personally am very favorable of.

Lads,

They say "there are more stars in the sky than there are grains of sand on all the world's beaches". I have many questions.

How do they know how many grains of sand there are? Can you have secret sand?

If I have a jar of sand in my room, do they know about it? Do they know about the sand vault? If I eject a Ragu jar filled with sand from Nanaimo into the sun, does it in turn detonate 100,000 stars from existence?

That's it! Congratulations! Portugal is the correct answer and here's why:

Due to the Treat of Tordesallis in 1494, Portugal was given control of half of the world (This included Europe, Asia, and Africa).

Portugal was the first nation to reach India and started the spice trade and owned it for a few centuries before being overthrown by the Dutch.

Today, Portugal does not have much influence in the world but its impact on history has been monumental.

They actually counted the stars and then made an educated guess on the sand. You're right about destroying stars by destroying sand though!

I think I have some problems with this post.

Djorner wrote:Due to the Treat of Tordesallis in 1494, Portugal was given control of half of the world (This included Europe, Asia, and Africa).

The Treaty of Tordesillas was related to what lands Portugal and Spain were allowed to colonize. That isn't as much that they were given (by whom?) control of half the world, and more that they decided (as many white settlers did) that they just controlled everything because they said so. Portugal's empire at height was composed of modern-day Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, and a peppering of micro islands.

Djorner wrote:Portugal was the first nation to reach India and started the spice trade and owned it for a few centuries before being overthrown by the Dutch.

This kinda bothers me because it treats people in India as not being people or otherwise being some kind of NPCs. The first people to reach India were Indians, fifty thousand years ago, later forming some of the earliest agricultural settlements, eight and a half thousand years ago, with the indian-developed sanskrit language spreading as to as far away as Turkey by two thousand five hundred years ago.

Trade goods were already going out to China and Buddhist missionaries were sent to Mediterranean Europe by 185 BCE. Portugal wasn't even the first Europeans to deal with people from India, as they were already trading with the Roman empire through trade ports in Arabia by the same time period. I assume you mean that Portugal "owned the spice trade", because certainly neither they nor the dutch owned india.

Two things first Portugal for a period of time also went to Japan and had places in China like Macau in it's countroll to about 1970's ish.

Second the Tratado de Tortesilhas divided the world in 2, it says that Portugal and Spain had territory that can colonize AND it "created borders" in the sea, so Portugal could only be on his zone and Spain on their zone. This treaty was basicly ignored when the Dutch and the English wanted to start colonising and defended the teory of "mare liberum" saying the sea had no owner and everyone who wanted could get lands and travell by the sea. This treaty was also ignored by the Portuguese after the discivery of silver and gold in Spainish lands in South America making Portugal expand Brazil.

Regulating the Sex Industry is a proposal to…let’s see, do we have any takers? Yes, you in the back? There's card collecting, you can write amendments for the revised statutes, you can write WA legislation, you can chat around on the forums. We mostly use NS as a side thing and hang out in the server all day. You just have to find something you're interested in, and then there's a lot of stuff within any of those categories.
